Staff qualifications
Eileen
Is an experienced N.N.E.B. Nursery Nurse with many years experience in all age groups. She is not counted in staff ratios and co-ordinates the deputies in charge of each age group.
Deputies
There are 5 deputies all of whom are at least level 3 qualified with appropriate post qualification experience. They assume responsibility for their room and are the point of contact for parents.
Qualified staff
Level 2 and level 3 qualified staff assist the deputies where necessary. Some rooms might contain 3 or 4 qualified staff whilst downstairs we tend to use only qualified staff in the delivery of our foundation stage for 3's and 4's.
Students
Like most nurseries we are at all times training students. This is essential to replace qualified staff that will at some time start families of their own. 2 out of our 5 deputies have trained from the start with us. All our students are motivated, supervised and work hard towards the efficient running of the Nursery.
Minimum qualifications
At least 50% of staff have to be qualified to level 2 or above. During our OFSTED inspection 16 out of 19 childcare staff met these criteria.
Additional qualifications
Health and Safety, Food and Hygiene and First Aid training is part of the Nursery Nurse training. All staff have either completed or are scheduled to take these courses.
Vetting
All staff on starting work at Going Places have to provide proof of identity, proof of address and 2 references. In addition, OFSTED and the Criminals Records Bureau are contacted for them to complete their own checks. All new staff have to work with someone until all checks are complete. The deputies are informed when checks are complete.
Continuing professional development
All staff are expected to have a working knowledge of current thinking and work practices. Additional training such as child protection or curriculum planning is sought to further build on individuals knowledge.
